I had such a wonderful time tutoring today (which I really needed after the past few weeks.) The boy I worked with was one who has been having some discipline issues and has been acting out this semester, but he was great for me. He got his homework done quickly, he was a great reader, and at no point was he blatantly disrespectful or anything. He just got new glasses, and kept wanting to clean them. We talked a little bit about how strong the “medicine” on the glasses was (the strength of the prescription) and at one point while he was cleaning them, he stopped, looking really worried, and asked me if he was going to wipe all the medicine off his glasses if he cleaned them too much. I feel like it’s questions like that that remind me how much I enjoy working with little kids.

Other wonderful thing of the day: Once all the kids got their homework and reading done, we played limbo in the garden for a little while (60 degrees in February- it would have been a crime to keep the kids inside) and while the tutors sort of started singing the limbo song as we got the game going, one of the girls (we’re talking first or second grade) started quietly singing ‘drop it low’ to herself as she limboed, and that caught on and became the new limbo song.

…I don’t really have anything insightful or witty to say about any of this, it was just such an awesome day and I had to talk about it. I love kids.
